Biodynamic Osteopathy

Connect With The Health

Biodynamic Osteopathy is the traditional, deeper form of osteopathy where we use our hands to connect with the Health and treat the whole patient.

The post-graduate curriculum in Biodynamic Osteopathy designed by James Jealous D.O. recognises the embryological forces that create our form also drive growth, development and healing throughout our lives. Dr. Jealous’ contribution to osteopathy continues and expands on the lifeworks of William Sutherland D.O. (founder of cranial osteopathy) and Andrew Taylor Still M.D. (founder of osteopathy).

Osteopaths understand that the body has an innate capacity to heal and regenerate, influenced by the activity of the autonomic nervous system.  Treatment co-operates with the laws of nature at work within our tissues, allowing the patient to come to a point of rest and stillness.

Biodynamic osteopathy requires a very light touch to observe and perceive living anatomy.  This creates an opportunity for the patient to re-establish their connection to the whole and release tension.  Patients may feel a sense of ease and relaxation during the treatment.

Who Is It For?

Biodynamic Osteopathy is suitable for anyone who prefers a more indirect approach. At our clinic we use this treatment for:

Portland Osteopath Dr. Michelle Sherriff

Dr. Michelle Sherriff has completed Phases 1-7 Biodynamics in Australia and New Zealand. She studied Phase 5 with Dr. James Jealous in Oregon, United States. Michelle has also attended Treatment of Children courses with Werner Van Camp D.O. (founder of the Swiss Osteopathic Centre for Kids), Melbourne.

Anatomy is a living wholeness of function and should be seen as a mystery of form, not static academic structure –
